What do health disparities along racial and ethnic lines look like when it comes to heart failure and how can we reduce them? That’s the question Dr. Chanelle Howe, Associate Professor of Epidemiology, is looking into along with other researchers in a new cross cohort collaboration study. The study is being co-led by Dr. Charles B Eaton, who is also a Professor of Epidemiology and Director of the Center for Primary Care and Prevention at Brown and Dr. Norrina Bai Allen at Northwestern University.
They were awarded a $3 million grant this past spring to examine racial and ethnic disparities in heart failure and determine preventative measures that can reduce these disparities. This cross cohort collaboration study includes over 130,000 men and women spread across all regions of the United States with a wide variety of ages, races and ethnicities. The study will examine the impact of using certain interventions on people’s lifestyles and clinical risk factors to see if they reduce racial and ethnic disparities in developing heart failure.
