Department of Epidemiology

Iju Shakya is a third-year PhD student in the Department of Epidemiology at Brown University. Her research topics of interest include nutrition, metabolic syndrome, lifestyle interventions, and gerontology. Her current research focuses on the burden of food insecurity on older adults living in Rhode Island and on identifying risk factors for SGLT2i-related adverse events among nursing home residents with diabetes. Prior to coming to Brown, Iju was an ORISE Fellow with the CDC's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control. She received a Master of Public Health degree in Global Health from Emory University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Smith College.
