The Department of Epidemiology boasts significant expertise in children’s and adolescent health, including a thriving group of interdisciplinary faculty members dedicated to health concerns spanning from infancy to adolescence. By studying risk factors that impact children, our goal is to ensure that young people have a safe and healthy environment in which to grow and thrive.
The Hassenfeld Child Health Innovation Institute was established in 2016, offering fresh possibilities for expanding these areas of research and related educational initiatives at Brown. From mental health issues to lead exposure, our researchers study the wide range of health risks that impact children and adolescents.
The Center for Children’s Environmental Health is dedicated to promoting the health of children by understanding the determinants, health effects, and biological action of environmental pollutant exposures including examining pesticides, drinking water contaminants, metals, and chemicals used in consumer products.
In addition to the established School of Public Health research centers that concentrate on these areas, collaborations also exist with Brown-affiliated hospitals, state and local governments, community organizations and industry.
