Chronic Conditions & Aging

From cancer and hypertension to Alzheimer’s and related dementias, researchers in this area are investigating the intricate landscape of chronic conditions.

Areas of Focus

  • Hypertension
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Alzheimer's
  • Disorders of Aging
  • Cancer
  • Long COVID

The prevalence of chronic conditions such as diabetes, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease is increasing. The study of chronic conditions—many of which are related to aging—seeks to understand the complex interactions between biological, behavioral and social factors that contribute to the development and progression of these conditions in adults.

This interdisciplinary field draws on expertise from medicine, public health, psychology, sociology and other disciplines to identify risk factors, develop effective interventions and promote healthy aging.

By understanding the impact of chronic conditions like obesity and hypertension on patient populations, our researchers can help inform policies and practices that improve the quality of life for older adults and reduce the burden of chronic disease on individuals, families and health care systems.
