Addiction & Mental Health

This field of research investigates the impacts of stress and trauma on mental health, and explores strategies to promote resilience in individuals at risk of addiction.

Areas of Focus

  • Mindfulness
  • Stress, Trauma & Injury
  • Mental Health
  • Disordered Eating
  • Opioids & Overdose
  • Harm Reduction

Our researchers examine the complex constellations between mental health, trauma and substance use. Researchers in this field examine how mental health concerns manifest differently across different populations, including children and adolescents, older adults, and those struggling with opioid use and overdose.

Through harm reduction strategies, such as overdose prevention centers and drug checking programs, researchers can work to minimize the risks associated with substance use and improve health outcomes.

By prioritizing the mental health needs of those struggling with addiction, researchers can work towards more effective and equitable interventions and treatments for individuals in need.
